WOODSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Located at Woodside West School
Academic Program, Grades 1 through 3
8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Taught by qualified, credentialed teachers, students study all the basic subjects, including reading, language, literature, spelling, history, geography, mathematics and science. Other enriching activities include art, computer, music, second language instruction and regular field trips. Check with your child's teacher for current snack policies for this class. Children may or may not need to bring a snack from home. Uniforms are not required but we do request that students wear Woodside West School T-shirts on most off campus outings.
Discipline Philosophy

The word discipline refers to "teaching the mind and body to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior which leads to moral or mental improvement." At Woodside West Schools, we let children know that it is all right to express their feelings and help them to channel those feelings into legitimate means of expression. Our teachers review the school rules with the children as often as necessary. When a child shows a lack of control, an unwillingness to cooperate with others or an unacceptable behavior, the child may be removed from the group to a spot nearby and given time to think about the situation. This could mean removing the child to another location in the room or play yard or sending the child to another group or the office for a time. After a reasonable period, the child who has been removed will be welcomed back and a discussion between the teacher and the child about the unacceptable behavior and acceptable alternatives will take place.
